Generic SMTP settings
Local
(useful for desktops)
This
is the simplest configuration possible. Set your email client to mail.vanitude.com,
port 25 . If you are on any of the Vanitude networks, you will then
be able to send mail.
Roaming
(best for laptops)
This
is a little trickier to set up. You must configure your email client
with your username and password, along with the information above.
This information is typically located along with the SMTP server information
or in some advanced tab.
If
you are having trouble with this please contact

Encryption
The
Vanitude SMTP servers support TLS/SSL encryption. However there are
several things to note. Email passes through the internet unencrypted.
This means that any computer that your message passes through can see
the contents of your message.
When
you connect to the SMTP server using encryption, this does not change.
You are only encrypting the communication between your Email client
and the SMTP server. This is useful if you are on a hostile local network
that you would prefer local users not be able to view your message.Other
computers on the internet can still see the contents of the message
as before.
If you
would like end-to-end encryption, such that only the recipient can view
the email, then you probably need to use some PKI (public key infrastructure)
technology like PGP, GPG, etc.
You
can get a free security certificate from Thawte here.
